Therapy with Emma
I offer empowered and embodied therapy for folks seeking to transform challenges and distress into a catalyst for healing. My approach is warm, real, relatable, and comes with a sense of humor. I am committed to being honest and while I will hold you accountable in our work, I will always honor your discernment and expect you to be the expert on yourself.
I work with anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief, codependency, trauma, OCD, and PMDD. I am EMDR-trained and my work is trauma-informed.
I work from a psychodynamic and somatic lens that combines traditional talk therapy with mind-body inquiry and education about the brain, body, and nervous system. “Feelings” are literally physical manifestations of the brain and nervous system’s response to emotional stimuli. Through developing a cognitive understanding of the mind-body connection, we find manageable ways to face challenges and cultivate deeper compassion for ourselves and others in times of distress.
As the body can be a source of pain and oppression, I hold this work with great care. I am committed to questioning identity dynamics, power, privilege, and positionality. I am dedicated to social justice and will support you in using your personal healing journey to work towards collective liberation and social change.
Therapy is not a magic fix that makes all life’s challenges go away, however, I wholeheartedly believe that the healing process we experience in therapy helps us transform our pain into wisdom and illuminates our capacity to support ourselves and to show up for those around us. My intention is to help you build tools and trust in yourself so you can meet life with mindfulness and confidence, knowing therapy doesn’t need to last forever and you already carry what you need within.
Sparky
My trusted office assistant, Sparky, is often by my side, offering tail wags, snuggles, and unwavering support. While her expertise lies more in boosting morale than managing paperwork, Sparky’s ability to practice presence, find joy in life’s simple moments, play, and unconditionally hold those around her in positive regard deeply inspires my work as a therapist.
